, by Elmore Leonard. It is about a detective on medical leave in Puerto Rico who becomes involved with a prostitute, who is on her way to work at a casino in Atlantic City. He runs into a man whom he had previously put in jail, a man who wants to kill him. However, this guy fails to really get the detective's attention, and kills the prostitute to get it. The detective spends a lot of time getting involved in the criminal world of Atlantic City while trying to solve the mystery of who killed her, before he figures it out.I won't give away any more and I doubt my description was very enticing, but it really is a good book. It was fun, I liked the way people talked in it (it was a sort of unique dialogue style, kind of refreshing), and I'm glad I read it. It's not the sort of thing I got caught up in, but it was a good, fun read. Not heavy on the detective aspect, not heavy on the action, not heavy on the crime organization stuff, just a light mix of everything. We also see things from the bad guy's perspective, which was a little chilling at times.
